I have been doing some research lately, and have several times come across something that might help those that have few maple trees around. It appears that ash leaves are very comparable to maple. They have a C:N ratio of 25:1, low lignin content, and decompose rapidly. Lucky for me...I have three huge ash trees in the back yard! I realize that maples and ash trees have very similar habitats, and where there is one, there is usually the other, but just in case you happen to have shied away from ash in preference of maple...
Anyway, just thought I'd share :)
