My thinking would be to flood it very well and for some time. The salt will flush out but try not to introduce salts to your pumpkin growing soil. Natural rain would do it over time. Have read where others just pile it up and after so many inches of rain determine flushing is good enough. I guess you could actually taste for it's presence.

I would dump it on a convenient hard surface like a paved driveway and really give it a washing, turning and spreading it every couple minutes. All the salt is on the outside and it is essential to wash off as much as you can. I generally rinse mine 15 to 30 minutes, turning and spreading and tossing it around so I get all the salt off I can. Another good alternative is to leave it out for a couple good rainstorms, then spread it out and let it dry on some sort of rack..makes for alot nicer day tilling then if it's still pliable. Oh yeah, got a big machette, smaller strands make life easier too.
