hi,

I have just gotten my soil test back not long ago and Ive noticed that the salanity is going through the roof. All that Ive added to my small patch was 80 pounds of gypsum and the salinity went from 2.4 ECe dS/m salinity to 3.2 ECe dS/m salinity. I thought that gypsum lowered the salinity in the soil? Is something else causing this rise in salinity? My new patch, which I have never tested, has a slinity of 2.7 ECe dS/m. This is also worrying me.

Soil testing is at its best an estimate of the soils nutrient value. I once met a professor who said it is like tasting soup with an eye dropper, and is very biased as to how the sample is taken.

You have added so much to your soil and not given it time to react this should be expected

You added something,

Salt is your existing soil,

Or salt in the city water,

Went through this last year,,,,, mine was at 4.8!!! It ended up being the compost I was adding. Lots and lots and lots of water and my fall test came back 0.6 :)

Does your water go through a water softener? That could add salt to your soil.
