i been planing out my tall sunflower section and i have this 50 lb bag of fresh chicken manure,, could i mix it in the soil would that be ok? i have herd sunflowers are nitrogen loving plants,, tell me what you would do if it was you...

If you mixed it in the soil and where not planing to plant there till next year you would be fine. If you planing to plant now I would not do it....Terry

There is a difference between nitrogen loving plants...and a hot manure...chicken manure should be composted...if applied fresh it should be very sparingly

Probli be best to do a mix of the above answers store it in a dry place &break down a bit on itself.nitrogen leaches fast so put in now might calm it to much after 1st of year be a good time to till in.

how big of an area? There is about 1 lb of nitrogen in 50 lbs of fresh chicken manure. A good rule of thumb is fresh manure should be applied in the fall and aged manure can be applied spring or fall and finished compost can be applied anytime.

we always applied fresh manure 1 inch thick, piled and aged manure 2 inches thick, and finished compost (where you can no longer recognize the original material) up to 4 inches thick. This assumes you are plowing 8+ inches deep and not applying every year.
