I recently received a box full of these can the be ground and added to the soil like vermiculite or somethimg like it?

I wouldn't. Peanuts today are moetly the kind that melt in water. Those that don't melt still contain stuff our soils don't need.

Packing peanuts wouldn't be a good idea cause most are made of plastic. Some are biodegadable but most aren't. Vermiculite is just like mica or a mineral thats been put through heat so it is actually a natural mineral
