Iv been adding horse manure with hey ,Sometimes a fair amount, just wondered if its rototilled under if itll be mosly ready for next season ? THANKS IN ADVANCE !!

It will be fine,but it needs to sit so i would complete as soon as possiable, some of the hay will try and regerminate. But the till before planting gets rid of it, and theres some stubburn ones that you still have to weed during summer. Theres always hay mixed in to my manure, just more OM And that good for me.

The best manure is often well rotten 2yrs should do it after that it is leached of all its nutrients. I also agree on the weed problem roundup is very reliable.

I talked with Greg Stucker at the Elk Grove festival and he was telling me how the hay would take a couple years before it was completely ready for AG's.

Compost the manure for at least 1-year then mix it gently in with the cover crop.

I till in 50-100 bales of hay every fall. There is no sign of it in the garden by early July. I decomposes very rapidly.

When I talk to growers I always suggest no matter what your feed your monster's try to compost it-- --also try to keep a pile ready a year a head of time---If ya put in any thing fresh put it in the fall time use Symbex at 2oz and molasses at 8oz to the gallon of water -- If fresh is all you got in the spring-- 4oz Symbex and 8oz molasses as early as you can 2-3 times before start the feeding program to save on compost ive been makeing 15 foot circles to put plants in or 10 ft--most plant dont root out of run any farther-than that--- a new thing ive tryed is to put the symbex and molasses on is drill small holes in a 5 gallon bucket and fill the it and walk around the area you what it on it work great---I will be up dateding feed sked and web site around the first of the year---craig

Craig thanks for the phone call yesterday great info thanks for the help.

I use hay as a compost bin.when the hay begins to decompose just throw the hay in with the manure.
just replace hay bales every fall.
worked fine for me the last four years.

yep a good way to do it--put a few post behind them you can use a loader to mix with--and you can make the bin as big or as small as you want with bales---

Craig, I have put in a tremendous amount of leaves would an application of nitrogen say 46-0-0 help speed up the process as well? Are these rates per 1,000sq.ft?

RUSS -when we put stuff in the ground its called sheet composting--nitro yes when your doing a compost pile-us alfalfa meal or pellets or high nitro -- the best is to getting what ever chopped in to little pieces and getting soil bacteria to do the work -and inhanceing it with molasses and something like Symbex-- small particles fast up take---craig

Craig thanks. I have added alfalfa meal and molasses. I need to get back out there and apply the Symbex too. Since I have put the leaves into my main patch area and not precomposted them I will hold off on the N. The N content of alfalfa meal at 3% is a bit shy of what may be truly needed for faster decomposition but at least it is organic and I can reapply it in the spring again.

C. Lembke...dont AG's put out roots at each leaf node??...Do the secondary roots need less nutrients? Not trying to be a matfox...just a nu-B tryin to learn. Thanks for all the info. Peace, Wayne

Wayne--were ever the roots leaves vines main or secondary grow the food need to be there --i feel that they dont seldom travel out of a 15 foot circle --which is 30 feet across --also im convinced that by the 3rd week in july most food we have put down is gone--that why foliar--and ground enhaning products help Alot---!!!--key word NEVER LET A PUMPKIN GO HUNGRY----craig
