An orchard nearby used to do jack o' lantern shows a few years back with hundreds of c. pepo pumpkins placed in apple trees. My question is whether or not I can use the resulting compost (it's probably 3 years old at the youngest, most of it's older) for my patch. I know the nutrients in the fruit are supposed to nourish the young plant, so would it be good as an ammendment? Or would it have too much disease/ pumpkin pests in it?

Thanks,
Jamie Cummins

Sure, as long as it is composted properly and fully....go for it.

Thanks Glenn. I think I'll take a closer look at it to see if it is composted and maybe give it a try.
