If you manage to get your pumpkin blossom down growing to “set” and worthwhile measuring - how do you do it? As all instruction is based on blossom parallel to the ground.

Yes, same as with those grown on their side. Hopefully if its squat, round, & symmetrical it will work to your favor when it comes time to weigh them but more often they are "mathematically the same" as those grown on their side and the standard OTT measurements will work just fine.

By work to your favor I mean there are some shape attributes that will help your pumpkin go heavy at a weigh off.

Well so far it’s symmetrical as in no matter which way I measure it’s the same... perfectly rounded atm, no ribs, 20inch circ. She’s a late bloomer but our weather is fantastic for the next 10 or more days. Kind of wish I did Atlantic giants now

I think you did, per your first post - you just didn't use Gerry crosses, lol; i'm very happy with my pumpkin outcomes every year, seemingly with my OWN crosses doing the best, but that's because i believe that the other growers' seeds will do above and beyond and plant so few; the 2003 Haist, though, has re-kindled my appreciation for AGs and surpassed it for vigor, abundance of growth and therefore my hopes of beating my PB of 912.5. hoping to measure it tomorrow, Labor Day; on a sad note, my best orange fruit has bitten the dust for growing too quickly with a stem split going into the cavity; the seeds will be 301.5 Gerry X 2003 Haist ((677 Catapano X 689.5 Sandercock) X 2003 Haist) - mega-looking-forward-to seeing the result of it next year; 't's OK, though, i've got 14 more---eg
