At what growth stage does the double planted pumpkins become competition to one another? I have two plants that look like clones, wondering how long do most people wait before choosing one over the other?

Wait until AFTER the next windstorm or hailstorm (joke). Seriously though once the leaves touch and overlap the leaf stalks can get longer and hence weaker... so cull approx. when the leaves touch? Planting farther apart will allow more development before choosing.

Choose after it lays down and starts to go...maybe 36”?....things to consider are obviously the faster grower...then consider how it laid down, any cracks visible?...we always check and double check for cracks before making a choice...they both look the same?...hard choice because they both look so good?....good problem to have. Good luck!
