Just wondering when would you start for a Sept 5 weigh off (National Heirloom Exposition in Santa Rosa). I have read 150 days prior. Does anyone go longer than that? That puts me at April 9. If the weather was good is there a benefit to starting earlier? It was 80 yesterday down to 48 last night.

Heat while the pumpkin is pollinated is one of your limiting factors

Do you think if I start any earlier the fruit will ripen too early and might not make it to Sept 5 or should I pollinate as earlier as possible and try to get some growth before it gets hot?

I am going to have several days with 100+, last year it started May 31. Last day over 100 was Aug 17. Average for July is 96.

Does anyone know of if there is a chart that lists DAP for pumpkins? Is 80 a good average? In a hotter climate is it less than that?

Maybe ron root or rob globus can chime in. I'm guessing 90 days in a hot climate. plus or minus 5 days depending on weather and genetics grown
