Would like to stop renting tillers and just purchase a good quality rear tine tiller for the two patches. I have two patches one is 30x80 and other is 30x45. Have tilled before but the soil is rocky and will likely continue to expand in future. My gut is that the Troy bilt horse is the best option. Would love some advice. Do the cub cadets hold up at all?

I have a Troy Bilt Horse! Had it for about 25 years. Had to replace the motor and tines once. But has had tons of use. Still works great! My neighbor has a Cub Cadet. Comparing what I see his Cub Cadet can do, I think his Cub Cadet is worthless compared to my Troy Bilt. Both are about the same size

Check in with the store that you rent from. I told them to call me when they sell off the older rentals. Got a great heavy duty rear tine from a fraction of new pricing.

I bought from Home Depot and was a little worried knowing the wing nuts that they may rent to, but they really service the machines well and replace anything needed before selling.

reading the review, on my husquvarna..the shear pins are the weak link...after the first one breaks.. i will replace it with s7 steel...probably about 50 rockwell c hardness....wonder what the next weak link is

It will chew up your cement driveway for you.

I have had a huskvarna for several years... I beat the sh6t out of it..fresh gas and change the oil yes some pins will shear off but if you don't want to have to change them don't hit big rocks.. Just saying... I have a rear tine with the different style blades.. Goes forward and reverse.. Back spin is very nice often thought electric start would have been nice too.. I'm getting older now...I would buy another one if I needed to

I use a DRT900 Husqvarna rear tine tiller. If you can afford it go for a BCS Tractor with tiller pto attachment.

Prices range from about $1500 to $5000, they are a four season workhorse.

bnot, the shear pins on a Husqvarna are made to brake to protect the gear box from damage if you hit a hard object.

it is the DRT900H that i bought. I tilled up the garden last weekend for the first time with no problems. So much easier than doing it with my front tine tiller. I think the problem with the shear pins might be something that i don't have to worry about. No big rocks or roots in my garden.

Also, if you push down on the handles you could cause the shear pins to brake. I have done that before.
