In Wisconsin we tested 3 pumpkins this year 2 were negative and one was well.. Positive... It was a bummer but it's time we start to test so we don't spread things around.. I meant to say we tested seeds..

Was it in the seed or on the shell? If on the shell is it possible some sort of quick soak with a bleach/peroxide/daconil might be able to avoid the spread?

Poty virus / mosaic virus. If it's in the plant tissue then it doesn't matter does it. It's there and will spread. I have used ag dia .com Check them out they do all sorts of testing tissue seed they even make test strips to use in the field or in ones patch. The extension office doesn't have a clue. I have spent a lot of time and $ looking into what killed my 2015 season also other growers seasons. The poty virus group is not one that we need or want to spread around. I actually hold clean certificates on a 2000 pound pumpkin from this year. Lab certified poty/ mosaic free... That has a nice ring to it doesn't it. I feel more top seeds should be tested but I will also say that it is not cheap... I know what I have spent so far on testing for the year and it would have bought a lot of growing supplies

It is an extra protein in the dna so once there it isn't going away. Won't be cleaned off with chemicals and that will not keep it from spreading. Not every plant show true tell tale signs however a possitive is a possitive.. Which is a big negative.

The clean seeds I tested are ... 2017 Martin 1418 D. Gantner... that might help bring more $ at auction the only 2 seeds I know that have ever been tested and clean. Food for thought

Garry, thanks for your effort in this area. Certified clean seeds is Numero Uno! Researching a bit of the background of prospective seeds may prevent one a future headache. Blue Cat, if you are concerned about a certain seed you could ask the grower about any diseases that they may have experienced, but ultimately you must decide if you want to avoid a certain seed, test it or grow it........good luck!
