I have a kin growing on the plant that i gave up on after i lost the fruit in early August, i measured the fruit yesterday for the first time and is a little over 400lbs, i havent watered or fertilized this plant since late July or looked after it at all, the kin is growing on top of the vine its on..my question is should i bother trying to keep it going or will it eventually die off from crushing the vine?

Always hope! If you are over 400lbs, and you have a controlled pollination, yes, tend to it. Work some sand around the shoulders rocking it side to side to lift it off the vine. Best of luck, and have fun!

You could try digging a hole under the vine to take pressure off. I have done that to help out birdbath pumpkins.

digging out from under it is likely the best option. Good luck!
