I see and read about folks having to move their pumpkins back away from the vine and so on. What are signs of stem stress? I have cut roots on the two nodes on either side of the kins, and each main vine has a little wiggle on either side of the stems. Anything else I should be worrying about/looking for? Thanks in advance for any help

as long as you can wiggle the vine and the weight of the vine isn't hanging on the stem (put something under it to hold the weight) you will be ok.

Sometimes the kin grows back toward the vine and starts to kink the vine in the S turn. If this happens you need to either move the vine away from the pumpkin a little -- which usually requires cutting valuable roots on the main) or scoot the pumpkin away from the vine (which is a nerve racking task).

I like to use those styrafoam noodles for vine support... Target/Walmart one can put a stick inside to keep them in place... and cut them to customize your need... and they are colorful to boot....and fairly cheap
