Hi folks. First year grower with all kinds of questions. I have four nice pumpkins on the vines here in Maryland. Before they get any bigger, I am hoping to learn what growers place under their pumpkins to protect them from moisture, etc. Looks like most growers use tarps but hoping for input.
Love to hear your thoughts!

Some use mill fabric, or plywood with sand ...I use weed fabric and sand... You could use just sand ...I would say shoot for 1-2" sand bed... Good luck!

we use sand to make a very flat spot 5x5, then put 1 inch sheet of white open pore Styrofoam with holes punched in it in case it gets water on it, and then on top of that we use mill fabric that we get from Dan Hajdas http://www.bigpumpkins.com/msgboard/ViewThread.asp?b=2&p=527695
