I see many on here have been growing their pumpkins for months now. I just put my seeds in the ground yesterday! The packet said 130 days which would be close to halloween. To get a giant pumpkin should I have planted earlier? Or is timing a giant pumpkin into October not really possible due to weather? I live in Richmond Virginia. Thanks.

For a giant one, yes. Typically start in mid April to early May for Atlantic Giants and want one growing by early July to maximize light output\energy. You should still be able to get something but it typically takes 60 days for plant to be ready to produce.

We just planted out halloween pumpkins this weekend so your just fine.

They'll be perfect about mid October.

It's never too late to learn something for next year. You may not break 2000 lbs, butYou could easily grow one bigger than you can lift this year.

Thanks for the info. 2000 lbs would be crazy! I was shooting for 100+ lbs. I'm definitely going to try the methods discussed on here this year,maybe next year I'll try for a real giant!

All I can say about that is as pumpkin growers we push the envelope on everything. If its fertilizer, myco, watering as well as an early start, we do everything for maximum growth and results.listen to the growers not the seed directions. This sight is the best source of information out there good luck hope you grow a huge one.
