Ok first year here, I have never pruned a kin before, Do I need to treat the cut with sulfur? How many use sulfur and how many don’t do anything? Where can you buy it (Home Depot?) It took me a little while to lay down the main. It sticks up in the air and has some secondary growth coming off it and other stuff. It does not hit the ground until a foot or so away from the base of the plant. Do I whack all that growth away from the stump? It is kind of a jumbled mess and the vines are starting to shoot. Thanks in advance for any replies...

We use a tool that has been sterilized in bleach. If you do more than one plant sterilize it prior to moving to the next plant. Clorox bleach wipes work excellent for this...I have never used sulfur on a prune

We spray every wound/cut with 6% peroxide and then dust with a fungicide -- we use captan but others use sulfur.the cut is an entry point for disease, the peroxide will help sear the cut and the fungicide makes a barrier.
after the plant is several feet long we prune all of the extra growth at the base, it makes it easier to see and gives more airflow.

I use nothing, if I am worried about disease like Shannon mentions I will sterilize my knife with bleach between plants or after making a cut that I suspect may have touched diseased tissue.
