I dug into my mount yesterday and it has be taken over by ants. There were thousands of them, larva and all. They were small and black. My question is: do I ned to get rid of them or will the plant be okay with them there? I'm in Western Washington if that helps. Thanks in advance.

Hey Mosquitoman...Too bad you haven't got an answer yet..Sorry its takin so long for you to get a response. If your still dealing with the ants try some "Spectricide" Termite and Carpenter Ant Killer. Won't affect the plant at all. You can get a small concentrated bottle at walmart or anywhere reasonable. Back on the 29th you could have probably moved your plant but I don't know haow old it was then and could probably put too much shock on it moving it. Put the sprayer nozzle a few inches below surface and give a couple quick speays, when they surface hit em again. If they live they'll move on, but I sugest getting rid of all of them you can. I also use the Spectricide to spray for cucumber beetles and squash bugs, kills em instantly and again does not hurt the plants. Says right on the bottle safe for ornamental plants and vegitation.Hope its going good for you
