Subject: how much damage can a kin take

storm blown down my pumpkin shelter and put a quarter inch hole and a small gash. will it recover?

Golly Darren, what next? Can you post a pic in your diary? A small gash will heal but a hole is another story...
Minor damage should be powedered with sulphur and left to dry...most likely will just scar over and be a reminder for you later on...
I had a skunk take a small bite out of my pumpkin that ended up being a pretty big scar when the kin was full size..but it never was a problem.
You can see it on this picture...a little 1/4 inch gash turned into a 4" scar.

Thanks Glenn sulfurs on. I would just like to see a big kin this year, don't care if it's prudy. If me or mother nature don't kill it. Lol

Last year my pumpkins took a golf ball size hail beating at day 15 and again at day 20. They ended up very ugly but healed up just fine. The biggest issue was some were deep and held water as the pumpkins grew. But as for damage to the outside, it is not an issue. Keep them dry and apply some fungicide. They will have some character when they mature!
