In the past I have waited till well after pollination to position my vines. This year I am trying to plan ahead and I am having a hard time figuring out which side of the vine the pumpkin will go to. It seems to be strait up in the air right now. Will it go to the same side as the leaf or to the opposite side?

Captain, planning ahead is perfect, but remember, if you make a 45° or 90° turn in the main at the fruit, it will open up a large area for you to manage the fruit.
Maker sure you attempt this on a very hot and sunny day when the vines are pliable.

Never had one standing straight up, is the leaf twisting the vine? All of ours have been on the same side as the side and leaf on that node.

Tom,
Thats what I am trying to do. However if I put the bend to the wrong side I could be creating a huge problem.

So it will go to the side of the leaf? it looks like its starting to lean that way. For some reason I was expecting to go the other way.

Capt, all the pics below have the pumpkin on the same side as the leaf like Cntryboy said. The 3rd one was mine last year and you can see where I cut the leaf at the pumpkin.
