When using a heat mat (never used one before) I've noticed the soil drys out very fast. Do i need to put a little water on the soil each day while germinating?
Thanks so much!

So cal you wanna put saran wrap over the top of the pot works great for me you never have to add water while in germ stage.

If you do the saran wrap method, really watch your initial moisture level as I rotted some in the past that way. I just use the foil now like Wiz said, but leave top open for some air. If it gets to dry, I spray it down lightly with water.

Heres a trick Dani and I use to keep the moisture just right. Buy some of those cheep seed starting trays with the squared off ridges on the bottom (non-perferated so they hold water)and put your heating mat under them. then add just enough water to fill up to the ridges. Place your next WR in a pee pot or container inside the trays with seran wrap loosly over the top and your set! Should stay a nice moist 85 to 90 soil temp.
Good luck and dont force them during their infancy!

Wiz, Do you soak your pea pots before you put Al on them or do you leave them dry.

Great Idea Wizz,I layed foil across the top of peat pots to hold heat & moisture in.I will check after 24 hrs then 36hrs,then every 8 hrs after that so no worry's that foil will stop seedlings from rising,I remove peat pot once soil is cracked.Once germed bottom heat can only hurt you. Then they go under grow lite 2 inchs from tubes.

I soak em.... with 50% solution of Seaweed...Poke them holeZ in the sides of the peatZ...like Paps suggested....
Then I have my soil combo already made up....Myco, Fertilome Professional, and Happy Frog. Fill up the PeatieZ..Wrap my AL foil all the way around except leaving the top open.... and put em in the chamber with the heat mat on. WarmZ them before the seed goeZ down in. (We dont like gettin in acold bath, why would they?)...lol AL foil keeps the potZ from loosing too much water to fast, and tranZfers the heat all around the lil Peatie potZ....
