The soil test says I need to add 2.75 lbs of nitrogen. What kind should I add? A granular fertilizer like I use on the lawn.

Personally I like the Nitro 30 from the extreme pumpkin store. One gallon is all that you'd need for the entire year. Effective and easy to use.

remember that you need to convert lbs of nitrogen/ area to lbs of fertilizer / area. 2.75lbs of nitrogen coming from a 10% Nitrogen fertilizer means you need 27.5 lbs of the fertilizer. if your recomendation is in lbs/acre then you also need to convert acres to your size patch. 43,560 sq ft per acre/ sqft in your patch gives you the fraction of an acre you are working with. conversely, if your recommendation is per 1000sqft, then you need to multiply the recomendation by the number of 1000 sqft in your patch.
you can use lawn fertilizer, just don't use a weed and feed product.

Or you could add 5.5lbs of Urea. But then again, it's not wise to add all your nitrogen all at once. You have to remember also that during the growing season, products you use also have nitrogen in them. Take like liquid fish.

I use blood meal as well. I sprinkle a little under the secondaries while I bury them.

Yes, for sure you should learn how to calculate what is needed for your patch size. Then how to determine how much product that you need to satify that need.
