Could anyone share some personal growing experience why the set pumpkin aborted it self after being set growing a week or more then weeks ??

This season I have some giant pumpkin and giant squash the set pumpkin and Sqush aborted it self ? can some one try to explain why ?? appreciate all reply and answers, thank you in advance.

kenny had that happen to me 2 yrs back,, still dont know why,, but ,, my thoughts was the soil was to hot,,, high ph,, as well,, high nitrogen content,, bad sodium too, but just my thought,, was in the new patch,, 1st season there

It sounds like a soil fungus or a soil disease and or
a plant virus

I'm no X-purt .but I have had many abort from 150 to 300 pds.The mosaic virus was the culprit,leaf samples sent to labs.

I grow a few giant pumpkin and giant squash plants this season, I find some pumpkin plant that aborted the pumpkin from 50 to 100 lbs but not all pumpkin plants other are ok ?? it was growing well at first and is just went soft stop growing :0(

This is my 3rd year ,first 2 years are ok only this growing season.

Kenny,
I had one abort at day 17, give or take a day. At that time, I really had no idea why.

It was from one of my own seeds, and several other growers had the same thing happen that planted that same seed of mine.
I am almost certain that in my case, the seed carried over some kind of disease or virus.
The parent plant that grew these seeds had some kind of virus.
What seed is causing this for you ?
Maybe do some research or ask the grower that grew the seed, if the parent plant had any diseases or problems.

We use to have consistent abortZ at Jareds in the early dayZ.....I think we have only had two since....we installed the automated watering system...above and below....

Before the mositure flucuated too much, especially during hot timeZ... ALso.. I switched over to the Paps method...of coming back the night of pollination...and taking off the nylonZ covering the flowerZ....and then cut the top 1" off the flower to allow air in... We had lobeZ rot before...now...our pollinationZ are pretty much a sure thing. We also cover the lil pumpkin too with a towel..and shade it as well until it takeZ. Good Luck

Kenny, I had a similar situation in my third year growing. It was a hot dry year and both the pumpkins I had going at the time stopped almost simultaneously around day 42 (one was over 900 pounds). It stumped me at the time, but now I am fairly certain that I let the soil become too dry which did not allow adequate nutrient uptake to occur. Once these pumpkins start to really put on weight (after day 20) the nutrient requirement is huge. If they aren't able to take up everything that they need, they can stop dead in their tracks. I also learned to take a soil test in the second half of July to make sure there are no deficiencies going into that critical time. I hope this helps.

I lost this one on day 20 and couldnt get another one going. Tests comfirmed fusarium and rhizoctonia.
