I am a farmer in Illinois. Any corn or soybeans that are grown organic have a much lessor yield of crop. Just wondering what are the advantages of growing ag organically? Just wonder everyone's thoughts.

Fk, it's a two edged sword...I think. Organics keeps soil healthier, but some (sometimes a lot) of non organic stuff happens in the HeavyHitter AG Patch!!! Lot's of serious chemical stuff is used to prevent diseases, and the ugly buggies!!! Sorta thinkin that organic w/ AG's is being tuned to NON Chemical ferts!!! The stuff you put in the dirt, and spray on the leaves to make em grow Slungers!!! Non Organic stuff is still needed to prevent the bad ugglies that can happen!!! Peace, Wayne

Hi, I no nothing about farming but a product I use is also used by farmers, it is dehydrated sea water, seaagri.com farmers have used it with great success, it is also cheap.

For as long as I grow for the rest of my life, I will be using floating row cover. Diseases can still present a problem, but insects never will. I hope whoever invented that stuff is a millionaire because they deserve to be!

Wayne, I have two hoop house like structures that I cover with 50 foot wide pieces of row cover. One house is 1,650 square feet and the other 1,900. When a tropical storm comes like this year, the cover can get torn off but if that happens it's usually late enough that insects are no longer an issue. Air circulation isn't very good in there, so powdery mildew was a problem from August 1st on. Next year I'm trying Actinovate for prevention.

Is that truly a "floating" row cover, or is there some type of support under it, other than the leaves of the plant? Also, where do you buy 50' wide row cover material? Thanks!!! There is no structure under it other than the plant. I kept it down with boards and bricks. stayed in place even with some really crappy weather.
I now a few guys that use a structure and their material gets shredded most seasons.
One thing I really liked was when I sprayed with my Stihl, the mist would just stay within the covered space, almost trapping it in.
