Grew a 479.5 on the 1622 Young. Great job to all the new growers that reached their first year goals.

Had a blast at Elk Grove over the weekend. Maybe not knowing what you are doing is a good thing???? I grew a 899.5 pounder and husband grew one 494.5. It was great having them give us an official weight and the measurements. We were able to compare their official numbers with our taping numbers and found it to be pretty close on your "normal" shaped pumpkins but not so much on my wheel shaped one. Maybe I measured it wrong, but we are just thrilled with our year. All the experienced growers were so friendly. A great group to learn from. I'm still in awe of what I saw on Saturday.

Forgot to add, mine was grown on the 3rd secondary (an error I know) so all in all not a bad result.

Went to Cooperstown a couple of weeks ago. I grew a 798.5 pounder, good enough for 13th place. I also got heaviest pumpkin grown in Otsego county. My 93" long gourd came in 3rd. Very happy with my first year results, never thought I'd do any where near that well. Leaves me chompin' at the bit for next season and finding out how much beginner's luck was invovled! Congrats to everyone, those are some nice numbers listed.

I know I didn't come up to par with many other ffirst year growers, but, I was right on target with what I felt my soil conditions could give me. I haven't had any growers of record to assist in any faze of prep to frost, just what I've gleened here. My goal is 300lbs. and may have been reached with the 1110 Krause X 740 Washer that split taping at 293lbs. est. It was thick and solid! I still have another 1110 on a secondary taped yesterday at 289lbs. est. Also solid, and a tough shape to tape! Had a leaky stem for a while, but has been dry for a while now! For a bonus, I've gotten a nice squash, something around 160lbs. est. and a nice melon around 60lbs. est. No big surprizing numbers here, but feel that I do understand my soils capabilities, what I have to work with and how to handle problems that arise. Realistically... Successfull!! Congraduations to all those first timers! Remember even if you didn't reach a goal this year, what you've learned is most valuble, and irreplacable! BSD, David

With a late start I finished at 580 lb. My 7 year old daughter and myself are already making plans to grow a bigger one next year.

Congrats to awl!!! Team B, measuring wheels, bird baths, and upside downers, & side-sizers, is always a challenge at any weighoff!!! I am sure that if you volunteer to help measure (at most any weighoff) you will not be turned away!!! Most weighoff's love volunteers!!! Some big time weighoff's might have a pre-set measuring team, but even so, they will not complain (I Hope) if you watch how they do it!!!! Peace, Wayne PS...sorry for slightly off topic post...but lot's of smaller weighoff's are run by volunteers...sometimes we just grab somebody & tell them they are getting put to work!!!! LOL I know this is factual (as I was put to work in Allardt!!!) LOL Loved it!!!!
