Season ended up with pretty severe PM---obviously spores are in now in my soil along with Daconil---do I need to do anything to remedy my soil for this?

All you can do is remove the plants, most of the powdery mildew comes from spores in the air that literally circulate around the globe

Powdery mildew can be spread from such plants as roses and lilacs. Make sure such(and other) plants are not downwind of your patch.
Start treatment for PM well before conditions are optimum for contamination, that's mid-July here in Vermont.
Once the PM starts, you're !@#$ed, so use contact and systemic fungicides. Generics are cheaper and work just fine.

if you start your powdery mildew sprays early in the season? ( from early august on out weekly ) it should never be a problem. if you wait for it to show up before reacting? its already to late.

I agree with pap, you have to be proactive, we start spraying lightly in early to mid June and continue throughout the season. We haven't had PM for years.

You need to rotate fungicides, I would absolutely use eagle, and if you can get others such as quadris or something lighter like greencure, daconil, fungonil, or others, these are effective as well.
