I have sent soil samples to a lab and I am waiting for the results.
I have also made cylinders out of something like chicken wire. I placed one of these at each location I plan on having a plant next year. These are being filled with lawn clippings and shreaded leaves as they begin to fall. In addition I have added cow/horse manure and I will add more after I get my results back if needed. I can also get my hands on older hay bails and I will be planting rye grass soon.
Any suggestions or thoughts?

I consider gypsum the most important amendment after compost. I don't always add as much, but I never miss it. Proper calcium levels is key to growing large, solid pumpkins.
