I read somewhere that a person left the blossom on too long and it started to rot. When do you remove the blossom? I had no idea that I need to remove the blossom.

When I pollinated mine back in the 1st week of July I had the same question and pap had told me to pollinate the female and tie of the blossom, 2nd I waited 1 full day with the blossom tied off and the next day I removed the blossom from the female to keep it dry and all 3 that I had pollinated had no probs. Pap told me that condensation can possibly build up inside the flower while being tied off and POSS. Lead to premature blossom end rot. This worked for me so its just my 2 cents...hope it helps ya!! I remove the flower petals about a day after pollination - otherwise the closed flower will dry around the blossom and can promote mold growth if it traps any water inside and sometimes you will not notice right away since the blossom is inside those petals and out of sight (plus it gets pretty hard to remove after more than a day or so once they dry out.)

It takes about 2 days and it will pull off easy, much longer they start to rot

are we talkin blossom on the pumpkin or are we talking about the flower that gets tied off around the blossom the day of pollination. the tied off flower gets removed the day after pollinarion but the blossom needs to be left on the pumpkin unless it decides to fall off by itselflater in the season.

It was me!! One of my MANY MANY rookie mistakes. I left the blossom on, moisture got in, mold developed which led to rot. My understanding is the the petals should be removed the day after pollination but leaving the lobes on the pumpkin. Tammy

Hi Pap, I was referring to the blossom on the pumpkin. I've left mine on and so far it hasn't fallen off. I just didn't know if I should remove it. I'll leave it alone. Thanks!

I believe 'nub' is the word were looking for. Flower goes, nub stays.
