Does the split got to the cavity of the pumpkin? In not you need to relieve that stem stress by making a slit in the stem all the way through and back to about 1 inch from the vine. Make slit length ways with the stem.

thats a very thick area of the pumpkin. small splits in that area if watched closely can be managed with care.( its when they go for a period of time undetected that a rotting situation could happen)

first determine how deep it goes by inserting a straw etc, into the area to see how deep the split goes into the shoulder.( it may also be so shallow you can see it with the naked eye)if its very small and shallow it should not be a big deal. if the straw keeps going deep into the pumpkin without hitting a solid area? then the parties over for sure.

secondly clean the area out good with a bleach and water rinsed small towel, spray bottle etc.
then spray with a fungicide or make a paste with sulfer, coat it and put a fan on it until area dries up.( you could also use a hair drier on low for a couple days )
