I am sorry to say but my first year is over. I have fallen to the squash bugs. I was using liquid seven, and did not see any bugs until it was to late. I wish everyone good luck the rest of the season and will be watching and reading and still learning. Thanks for everyone's help so far. Joe Z.

Joe, I'm sorry to hear that. My first year with pumpkins was last year and all I did was JOLs and I lost them all to the vine borer. Bury all your vines and you might get some growth. I ended up with 11 little JOLs with one plant. I'm even curing my culled pumpkins this year so I have more to show.

Squash bugs, at least the adults, are very tough to kill. I won't use chemicals but I've read that they are now resistant to Sevin. Floating row cover is what I am using this year, it keeps them completely off the plants unless they can find their way through a hole in it. They are persistant, I find them walking around on the outside of it all the time but it can still be effective. See my diary for details.

They aren't resistant to a hard sole on a bottom of a shoe!

Who needs a shoe when you can crush them with your fingers?

I did that a few times. I don't like having stinky fingers. :P

I got a million vine borers and cuc beetles I'll trade at a discount. No squash bugs as of yet.
