I did a search and read posts back as far as 2003. My question is when people say that it will "heal" does this mean that it will actually grow back together and close back up? My Captan just came in last week. Just in time. I found 3 today. All with the grain. I'm pretty sure I know how to treat it, just unsure of the results. Thanks.

Vines will secret a sticky substance until the wound is knotted or scabbed. That's if the wound is across the vascular channels. If the wound is parallel to the direction of the vine, the vine doesn't always heal but opens up. Once opened, a crusty substance forms to protect the vascular channels. I've never seen a vine actually close up and grow together again. So, with the grain is better than across it.

splits naturally happen on some of the main vines ( not snaps or breaks im talking about just splits that run same direction with the vine ) they will heal over in time if you leave the splits exposed. sometimes i have also wrapped a small length of gauze arount the split to keep insects out. it works
the atlantic giant plants are the most prolific of any plant you could ever want to grow. if you keep disease at bay? these plants are capable of just about anything.
for example --- have you ever pulled a plant ? put it in a pile in the woods? only to go back three days or so later and the male flowers are still opening up? and the newer leaves are not wilting? i have.

Seen it pap, with 3 of my 5 plants this year!!!! LOL Amazing plants, and am happy that one of 5 has survived the incredible June heat wave here in Ky.!! Hope to have a pkn in Oct!!! Peace, Wayne
