things that may help you
sometimes a female will only be open part way the morning yo were expecting to pollinate. if its part way open pollinate it and tie up the flower tip. the next morning instead of removing the flower pollinate it again (with the same pollinator ) close it off and remove the next morning.
excess heat in the high eighties low ninties and leaf burn. we are experiencing quite abit of leaf burn on the second and third leafs back from the vine tips. watering extra does not seem to help so i thing sometimes not vine buring during a hot spell (the warm soil over the yet to grow new tap root area i believe causes the leaf burning ) and just staking extra vine growth until the high heat -humidity passes may be better for the elimination of burning. of course if you have a misting system that is timed then this may not be necessary.
on very hot days a fan next to the newly pollinated pumpkin can help a lot.
when at all possible try to get three pumpkins pollinated on each main vine. choose the best one for you goals. by that i mean round? oblong? natural position off the main? best grower in the row 9if its a really bad angle may not be best for the future)you will never know once its been culled.
this is the time of year to start adding a pinch of 0-0-50 in with your mico/root shield products when vine buring.id say 10-15 percent of the mix.soon the pumpkin will need extra potash and it will alread be there in the soil.

Thanks pap. I am trying to decide between 3 on one plant. The other plant is obvious. This helps.

We got some leaf burn here too, after weeks of clouds & rain we got a few nice days right on the summer solstice and had a few singed new growth leaves. We did not bury any vines about 5' back from the tips of the side vines so not sure about paps theory. Interesting the little straggler pollinator 909 in the corner of the patch did not burn at all, my theory is: High growth rate plant material that is pushed beyond normal due to optimized conditions is more susceptible to burn than slower climatized growth. Its not nice to try and fool mother nature.
