on the 10th of June what is it going to be like in October? It's day 161 on the julian calender. If I make it to day 300 that's 139 days. What kind of daily average weight gain should I shoot for. A thousand things can happen between now and then and only a few of them are good. What are the top five things I need to put my efforts/concerns into. Shade/Water/Fertilizer/pests/ s-urves/gophers/rabbits/groundsquirrels/snakes/earthquakes/ fires/sinkholes/running out of beer.........

Look for a early weigh-off. Dont worry about the beer part unless a sinkhole swallows your whole plant.

Look at the pic I just posted in the diary and let me know what you think. I got a problem. I think I'm infected with the GPGS (giant pumpkin growers syndrome). Beer, dirt, sunshine, and an aching back seems to make me think I lived a good life! Hope you have a good run this year!

top five things i would do ( if i were u)
1. cull the early pollination and pollinate others on the main starting around the 20th of june (that way you wont have a pumpkin thats done growing late august early sept) 2. you shoot for the bst daily weights the plant/pumpkin are capable of giving you 3. use mico /root shield products when vine burying, keep soil healthy and keep potash levels up during peak growing times 4. spray for local insects as needed in your area. dont wait until the plant is infested to act.check the plants daily and look for problems.check for soft stems often, treat with fungicide as needed 5. keep pumpkin shaded from the sun with sheet laid over fruit or tarp resting on stakes over the fruit. in september when the weather is cooler and the sun farther away we allow full sun on the fruit.
