I planted six seeds on April 5. Now they have sprouted and out grown four inch peat pots. I removed the pots and transplanted into three gallon plastic pots. They are under artificial lights in the basement, how cold of night temperatures can the newborns endore? I want to move the plants outside and put the best in the ground when ready. I'm in no competition but I live in WI. How long can they stay in the pots?

Start another batch in 2 weeks. It's still too early unless you're looking for a ripe pumpkin in August.

Yep.. I'd start another batch too.

Most wisconsin growers(new to pumpkins)are starting the seeds to early this year, their getting fooled by this nice weather..

But they can only stay in those pots for no more than 7-10 days at most.

I'll start my seeds around april 25-30.

If you're not planning to take the fruit to a weigh off then go ahead and plant them in a few days, with this weather I'd say they'LL will be okey....

provided you have a small hop house to go over them.

Ripe pumpkins in August tend to rot and lose weight early.

I have a small enclosure for them but I have no other seeds I ordered them from dills in Canada and it took four weeks. Will the pumpkins be rotted by Halloween? I just want a big one for my little one to talk about. Is there a local source I can get new seeds from (Milwaukeeish) or just see what happens? Out of the six planted I have two looking strong. Now in pots outside in the nice weather

Capt.A, just post a posting if you need seeds. Growers will offer you seeds. You then send them a self addressed stamped bubble envelope. You can have them usually in a week. I only a few or I would send them to you.
