I'm going to try to buy some seeds during some of the auctions this winter. What can someone that is new to this expect? I've read some of the older posts on etiquette and such, so is there a list of rules or guidelines that new growers should be aware of.

Have a great time. The auctions are fun and typically managed by experienced growers. You can tell the great proven seeds by their price. Etiquette is typically only defined for people who need it defined. If you have questions or issues, ask for the moderator. Don't swear much and watch where you spit your chewing tobacco and you will be fine. Pay by good check and soon. If you make a mistake, admit it as soon as possible and clear up the problem. Where people have problems is when they do not pay, back out after a few days or never reply after winning.
I would also try contacting some growers and ask for seeds on the Seed exchange. If you can get to an event, great place to share information. Also visit the chat room and meet some growers. That and join an association.

rebjr...most (if not all of the auctions, post their auction rules upfront)(usually at the top of the page that has the lot list!!!) Most auctions ask for M.O. rather than personal check,(some have paypal) once again...check the rules for the particular auction in advance!!! I would suggest printing the rules, contact info, and lot list in advance!!! The lot list...printed & in your hand makes it a lot easier to know what is being auctioned, and what is next!!!! Lots of times there is more than one seed in a lot, and the auctioneer will list the weights & names of that group only once...at the beginning of the lot. After that, if you don't have a printed list...you are sorta in the dark!!! Hope this helps!!! Peace, Wayne PS...Have fun, bid big, and bid often!!! All these funds go to help each site!!!! PPS...save some money for the KGPG auction!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
