One of my two plant that was'nt tended to that closely had vine borers, I tugged on the main and out it came, it was used for pollinating. Question: my other plant which had freshly plucked off leafs (they were dead) that went right up to the stump had a vine borer in it, I pulled out the vine borer, sprayed the whole plant with malathion, now should I leave the stump uncovered or let it get air and be exposed to the vine borers.

I would leave the stump uncovered and paint the damaged area with daconil. You could dust it with some Bonide Eight (permethrin). I think it is best to let it dry out to prevent rot from starting. We did that with one last year and it held up nicely for the rest of the season.

I went to the chat room and they suggested captan, so I went out and bought some captan, hope it works.
