i have svbs in my field pumpkins, but not my ag's yet. it appears from my reading that the only method of removal is surgery. i see "sawdust' and have removed two larvae from field pumpkin stems. i have been spraying with fungicides (dac-onil)and sevin/orthomax (7-10 d on both). I may have gone more on the ortho max on the ag's. it appears that i need to get bayer tree and shrub. please advise a rate. I need a rate since it is not labeled for this use.(sorry, i dont mean to sound like a dork, but as a person who applies some chemical professionally, i feel obliged to ask what the going rate is) also, will the spray eventually take care of the larvae, or is the only method to remove them to surgically remove them????i will wait for replies for further action, but i think i know what i need to do. the other question is how many larvae are in each stem and how far do they go????

Assuming the SVB larvae has not hatched and made it into your AG vines yet, you should be ok. If you had the SVB larvae confirmed in the field pumpkin vines I would definitly have great concern.
You need to inspect the vines and stems very carefully for eggs or the saw dust poop on the AG's. Remove all eggs!! if they are in the field pumpkins there has to be eggs on the ag's. Keep an eve out for Wilting (could be a sign the SVB larvae chewing away inside the vine.
The best way to take care of svbs is to be preventitive from the get go, when you apply the Bayer T&S I have no clue how long that takes to pump through out the vascular system of the plant, I am sure size of plant, amount applied, how damp the soil is, and where it is applied all play key roles. Tremor might know this.
My plants are about 400 to 500 sq ft each and I apply a soil drench of bayer T&S 1.47% Implorid (Spelled wrong) to the stump and main vine area. I use 5oz of the bayer T&S mixed in with about 7 to 10 gallons of water. I apply this every month. I only use a 4 oz mix with my first application of the year since the plants are smaller. This will take care of the systemic side of things.
For a foliar spray, I use Ortho MAX (Bifen) You can buy (Lowes, Home depot) the pre mixed bottles just hook the hose up and spray or buy the concentrate ones and mix according to the directions on the bottle. I apply this every 7-10 days to the entire exposed plant surfaces except for growing tips!! and fruit!! Top and bottoms of leafs, stems and vines. IT's a big pain in the A&$ to do this but it works very well.

Also, Never apply pesticides or fungicides during the heat of the day or you will end up with a crispy plant!! Apply in the even hrs about a hour before sunset. Wear proper PPE and make sure your dog or kids aren't palying in the plants!
When it comes to older larva that is already in the vines, I do not think the bayer T&S will do the trick I think surgery is your only option. The key thing is to keep up on your spray program so when the larva hatch and go to chew in they die right then when they are weak hatchlings.

I applied Bayer Tree and Shrub to my plants while the were still fairly small. I have personally seen dead grasshoppers and Jap beetles in as soon as 2 days of application. Bayer also make a granular application for lawns that I broadcasted over the patch and has a life of 90 days.
