I am running out of room in my patch,I have several pumpkins on.I need to know how to prepare my main for being buried.Cut it just after one of the leaves,so it will root there?I am not sure.

Thanks jeremy,I have the one main that is right at 20' and has enough room to go another 4',the other has enough room to curl around and get probably 22'.But after that they will run into each other.I was planning on burying them at 22' and 24'.I don't know where I should cut them.An inch past the last leaf?

i would think a couple inches past the leaf....take a plastic clothes hanger and anchor it well, then snip it and cover it with dirt, that is all i do.

We are talking about the very end of the main. The main is the one that is the dominant vine. You are right that it should be buried already but should not be buried near a pollinated pumpkin so it has room to grow up.I think the main should be buried at the end so the plant will start growing back toward the pumpkins instead of getting longer. There are no stupid questions!
