Certainly don't give up! That crack really doesn't look all that bad to me. I've had worse at the stump and they healed up fine. You did good by treating the crack. You might want to put something over that area to keep the crack dry until it heals. Just make sure you DO NOT move the vine at all. These plants have remarkable healing capabilities. I think you will be fine.

A grower in my area that's been at a long time, suggested to put vaseline on the cracks last year. It keeps the water and air out, I tried it last year and it worked pretty good. Anybody else try this??? John
