after the pumpkin starts growing can you cut the vine past it.

You can, it certainly makes for good stem positioning. Most growers try to keep the whole vine because the pumpkin gets it's food from both before and after the pumpkin. ( the best we can tell.) I have grown many good ones where I have had to cut the vine after the pumpkin.

You can, I can't say for sure how much that effects your overall growth, if you are going to cut the main after the pumpkin make sure you have a lot of green in front, you can bring your last set of secs up after the pumpkin and fill space.
I grew a 703 last year that was cut after the pumpkin, who knows might of been 1000 if i had not cut it.
if you are going to make sure you have a few pumpkin sets on that main before you clip it in case you have an abort.
