When you talk about this, do you cover the WHOLE vine and leave only leaves sticking up? or just a small section of the vine? Yes..I am a REAL newby to pumpkin growing

Some people bury the whole vine to hold it down in the wind, get better rooting and hide it from vine borers. In the past I have just buried vines at leaf/root node, but This year I plan to bury the first 5 feet of the main and a lot of secondaries. I wouldn't bury the main too close to the pumpkin, as you need to have some slack in it to prevent stem stress.

also don't bury the stump, the area where the vine comes out of the ground.

Do you actually bury the base of the leaf stem? Or just the main vine?
