Most people don't allow a pumpkin to begin growing until the 'main' vine is at least 10 feet long, so yes clip it. those other vines are 'side' vines, let those grow, just be sure that they grow straight out so they don't tangle. eventually the side vines will have vines sprouting off them, called 'tertiary' vines. prune those. there are a few patterns of vine growing some people use that allow tertiaries to grow on select secondaries, but I'd just prune them and not worry about it. Hope this helps. Brian

Pete, letting it grow for a few days, and seeing how it developes might be a good learning tool....I don't think it would be a major set back for you...if your plant is growing well, to see how a female developes. I would certainly cut it off before pollination time comes, but seeing a female develope to that stage is certainly informative, if you have not seen it happen before!!! Might be interesting to see it get to the "I will open up and be ready for pollinating tomorrow stage" , if you have never seen it before!!!! The tips of the "flower" pucker a lil and show a lil orange!!!! Most certainly clip it at 2' vine length...but watching how it developes might help ya!!! Peace, Wayne
