Just started growing this year. I have 3 plants that are doing very well but are in close vacinty of eachothere , 3 ft between is this to close? the main vines have landed and are already 6 feet . Shall i remove 2 plants and just concentrate on the one plant. I posted pictures in the gallery , Either under "Big O" or" Sandy Utah". I would appreciate any feed back. Thank you

i would remove 2, these things will tangle in no time unless you just cull 1 and grow 2 back to back like me.

but 3 feet is close together for 2 plant IMO.

are the mains growing in the same directions or not?

that was my next question. is it not good to let them tangle with each other , because the secondaries are getting close. and yes the mains are going in different directions. Should i cut these secondaries before they reach the other plant? thank you for your feed back

If you let them tangle into each other they become totally unmanageable. You can't gain access to the plant to properly spray or prune tertiaries. Also the leaves will become so thick in the tangle that you cut off airflow through the plant which increases disease possibilities.

Tough call, how much room do you have in front of the 2 that are growing side by side? If you have plenty of room for the main vines to grow, you could terminate secondaries and grow them side by side in the flag pattern (secondaries on one side only).

Looks like they are in pretty close together and they will get much much bigger than they are now.

Thanks Hoots, i was told dont cut secondaries . so i should remove the entire plant instead. The main has gotta have 100's of secondaries i dont get what the problem is just to remove one. and the ones i remove are like the first ones comming off the main. Is this a NONO ? i just dont want them to tangle with the other plant

Yes, I looked at the photo and hope more people look at it and give you some pointers.

It is perfectly fine to remove secondary vines as needed, when they are too close together. You can do some fancy pruning of secondaries, but I think 3 plants in that space is 1 too many plants as I said they are going to get way bigger.

Great mountain biking here, a very popular sport and activity in our area of lakes, rivers, mountains and ocean.
