One of my bigger plants just doesn't want to lie down. It wants to grow upwards and started becoming really top heavy. I staked it for upright support but it naturally wants to graduate toward it's side. So now I am helping it along to lye on it's side and will make direction adjustments daily.Anyway there is a small lengthwise split in the upper base. This is one of the reasons I gave up keeping it upright because I don't want the split to get worse. I just put some captan paste on the split. Hopefully that is ok to do, I think I read it somewhere on this board.

Fisher, using the Captan was ok, won't hurt a thing but the Daconil is ok also. A lengthwise split is not such a big deal. It will heal over time and won't affect your pumpkin size. Sometimes these things just want to grow to the moon but sounds like you are on the right track to getting her to lay down.

I wanted to use daconil but they didn't have it so i picked up the captan instead.

lis...support it top and bottom...try and control the upward growth, but also have bottom support...so it wont flop and snap!!! Remember always...you are smarter than a pkn plant!!! You can do this!!! Sounds to me like you just might have a keeper plant...AGRESSIVE!!! Peace, Wayne PS...thanks Jason D. !!!

Aggressive isn't the word for this beast. The plant is far outgrowing the others in size, vigor and overall growth rate. It's getting kind of corky now with crazy twists so I don't even know which is the side and which is the bottom at this point. I knew I shouldn't have planted on a hill, as I was concerned about vine support and breakage but knock on wood the plant looks very healthy and is growing like a weed!
