Our plot is only about 8' X 15'. Would it be better to run the main vine down one side and only allow laterals to grow on one side or should I run the main down the center and have short laterals on both sides?

Also, should I prune at the edges of the plot or let the laterals continue off into "undeveloped" garden territory?

Finally, I keep reading about burying vines but have not found detailed directions. Can someone point me to an on-line source or verify that there is such a discussion in GP 2 which is on its way to my house.

i would run the main down one 15' length of it and let the 2ndarys on one side grow the 8' and on to the grass (flag plant).

burrying vines = dig small trenches in front of vines and then backfill after laying vine down or grow vines right on dirt and shovel dirt over them.

i have extra compost this year where i will just lay it over the vines as they grow instead of digging trenches like i did last year.

Thanks. Re burying: how deep and do you even bury where the leaves attach or just in between the leaves?

i just bury enough to cover the vine.

i would bury all the vines except a few feet on each side of the pumpkin you plan to keep, as you will need to cut the tap roots off at this area to let the vine rise with the pumpkin as it grows.

In case you are wondering vines will root in your lawn. If you have the room let the plant grow onto the lawn, 8x15 is a pretty small area. Most growers like at least 500 sq/ft or about 20x25.
