The cots are the two leaves that are round. The first true leaf will tell you that the plant will be taking off opposite of the first leaf. God bless you, have fun and grow a bigun!

Maybe its just me, I found it confusing at first. There will be two leafs first, then a third, if you look closely at the 3rd it is growing up along one side, the plant, main vine will grow opposite the 3rd leaf, the other side.

The cots are the smooth edged leaves, the first true leaf (#3) will look sort of sawtooth edged as it starts. That's the one that will tell you which way the vine should head (the other way from that one) Face the first true leaf the direction OPPOSITE the way you want it to grow.

the "rule" of opposite the first true leaf is not a rule, as in sometimes the bloody plant will twist at the stem and turn almost 180 degrees and the vine may run the wrong way, then you have to try to train it to go the other way.
