I started three seeds in a germination box until the roots started growing. Then I put them in soil. How long does it usually take for the leaves to sprout? It has been 7 days since the roots popped out.

Should have been up way before now.
1. How deep did you plant the seed?
2. What heat source do you have on the pots?
3. Is your soil to wet or to dry?
4. Did you take extreme care when placing the seed in the pot not to damage the root?

Just a few thoughts.

I buried them about an inch down. I looked at the soil and it might have been a little dry, so I added water. Do I need to have lights on them or is that just when they sprout?

You will have to have some sort of heat source if you want them to germinate. Either by a light bulb over them or a form of heat (such as heating pad) under them. I use a germination mat. I'm sure someone will chime in with some other ideas. Do a search here for "germination" and you will find a lot of ideas and advise.

Dan if you only waited for the roots to show & then planted them you planted a little to soon , they should have been poped (UP) out of starting medium first & then a lot of people wait untill they can see first (TRUE) leaf usely only few days after, In cold soil it may take a week or 2 to come up ,if at all ! Good luck ,

I had them in a cooler with a heat mat. The temp was about 85. The root came out and I put them in peat pots. THat was 8 days ago...I am wondering how long it usualy takes from that time. I guess I am getting worried.

I've had the same happen to me. Sometimes it's just a slow seed. Eight days is pretty long though. Can you give more info about the potting mix and anything you've added to the soil?

I ordered new seeds. Hopefully they get here quickly, so I can try again.

Leave them in the heated box until they pop out of the soil. Also make sure to keep moist, not wet, all the time. Once my root has popped out, I put it in promix, water, and never need to water again until it pops out.
