Cheddah, The difference is THE GROWER, Me and you can go out and grow the exact same seed and cross that Joe and RON do. However the out come will be very different.

well what if a heavy hitter was to grow 5 1068 wallace and 5 1081 leonzi ? would similar results between the differant seeds be expected ?

There can be variation within the seed from one pumpkin... and it can be a lot of factors that will influence your results.

Heres my take on multiple seed plantings. We all realize that the same seeds from the same host pumpkin will many times yield different results regarding size, shape and often times also color.
When you consider multiple plantings in the same garden you can eliminate soil difference being a factor. When you do multiple plantings in the sme paTch you eliminate different growing styles. What you do gain is the chance that out of say 4 WXYZ seed stocks ? that one or two will be more agressive and produce that contender.
On a down note you also by trying this reduce the amount of crosses you cam make. worth the risk.
Of course im talkin about planting four of the same proven seeds not four unproven. planting unproven is not a fair project because theres no history to compair to.

For unproven seedstock with 845x898 lineage I think the 678 Bosworth has potential. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/displayphoto.asp?pid=6142&gid=1

most remakes dont give the same results as the original for several reasons.here are a couple.
different seeds from the same mothers do give off different results, so will their remakes.
remakes dont usually get as wide a planting group as the original would.

Cheddah..you never know till you plant one..look at the 991 Urena..same as the 998 Pukos..got little to any planting..then a few grew it and it threw a 1200 lber and a 1300 lber. I agree that different plants mean different genetic make-up..but..there is a chance it is as good or better. It's all about whether you willing to be the one to prove it out. I was given the advice to make my own "dream Cross" and then plant it myself...there is no way better to prove out a cross than to grow it yourself. Then others might be wiling to try the seed. There are so many great crosses out there that it does require some proof to get others to grow a seed from someone other than a proven grower. It also is a great feeling to grow a PB on your own seed. Mark

Remakes are a lot like children. I've got two kids that couldn't be more different. They both came from the same genetic pool but right from day one the first was more aggressive and the other happy to take things as they came. The two of them look a lot like each other but they certainly aren't the same. That doesn't mean that you can't get a hit every so often with a pumpkin remake, but like kids they all have their own unique little genetics and personalities.
