Hi. We have a fairly mild winter here with only some scattered hard frosts etc.. We also have some areas near the house that are very sheltered and actually have citrus growing in yard. I am noticing that after we cut or pumpkins off the vines we have a few small vines starting from the main vines with roots etc.. Has anyone tried using clones like this before and keeping them through the winter. I do not expect a lot of growth in winter but an 8 foot vine april first is better is better than a seed and these were very good plants that we got a really late start with last year. I am wanting to try with at least one from each plant and see what happens if kept in 10 gallon pots through winter and protected from cold weather. Thanks for any advice etc.. Steve

if you have a special plant from the previous season or know someone with a special plant that will let you start a clone off it ? by all means do so. to me a clone is good for one thing - pollon for next years crosses.
clones have never been known to be big pumpkin producers but are an excellent source for that special or rare pollon you may desire next season.
we have a pretty large clone going from steve connollys plant that grew him almost a 1,600 pounder this year.

Hi. Thank you for info on this. I know on some plants clones do well but did not know on pumpkins. i think we will keep one for pollen then. Thanks. Steve
