I have a plant that, once i set a pumpkin on it, the vines stopped growing and females stopped showing up. Now at 250lbs, the pumpkin is pulling itself off the vine at the stem (due to a lack of diligent positioning by myself). Currently the stem is a bit more than half way pulled off the vine. All of a sudden, i am seeing new vine growth and females popping up. Is this due to maybe the plant not feeding the pumpkin anymore and the available energy now going into new vine/baby pumpkin growth? or is it something else? Just wondering. It is kinda cool to suddenly see a dramatic change in the plant.

Sounds about right Dave. Took the season off from competition here, but had to grow one for a porch carver here. Set a pumpkin about 8' out and it has sucked the life out of the plant after the fruit. Main vine growth barely inches per day and secondary vine growth spotty at best.
Nature of the beast I guess...Good luck!

Once the pumpkin starts growing pretty much all nutrients go into it. The plant is no longer receiving enough to make it grow at the fast pace it was. It's all normal.

Mark......I don't know how to say this. As for my pumpkins I had very little vining and pumpkin at 10 feet out and then I started putting a fertilizer I read about on the pumpkin plants leaves! All of a sudden the plant grew vines four to five times larger and four foot tall! I had more vines than I had ever had! I cut off tips of vines as I want the nutrients to go into making pumpkins not leaves! I am not sure how the pumpkins will fair but they are growing daily! And the plant is healthier with more vines!

If its not off the vine...prop the vine up and release the tension..keep feeding the good one. GrowEmBig! Chuck

At this point, there is no way i can move anything without ripping it further. It is still growing though. I thought it would be disconnected by now.
